Take a guided walking tour to learn more about the cemetery’s history and the fascinating people who are buried here.
Houston’s historic Glenwood Cemetery was founded in 1871 as a picturesque garden style cemetery. Glenwood derives its historical significance from its origins in the cemetery park movement of the 19th century and its extensive collection of historical monuments and statuary. Many of the people buried here at Glenwood have made important contributions to our city, state, nation, and the world.
Tranquil beauty with statues that are difficult to find in Texas in any cemetery. It is like a park. It is a park !! I was so excited to stumble across the burial place of Gene Tierney and Howard Hughes.
Absolutely gorgeous place! The granite art and stonework along with the landscaping was just beautiful. Well worth visiting. We wished we had allowed more time for this.
Glenwood is one of the most visited cemeteries in America. In a city whose topography is primarily flat, it has rolling hills, tons of huge trees, beautiful markers and lots of Houston history. It's practically in the shadow of downtown Houston, located very near Buffalo Bayou. Such a serene experience.
Holiday Announcement: Glenwood will be closed on Friday, July 3rd, in observance of the 4th of July. We'll reopen on Monday, July 6th, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please note that Cemetery gates will close at 5:30 p.m. on July 4th.
